Jeremiah Batiste is the next wide receiver looking for a new home. Butts came to Miami as a three-star recruit out of Florissant, Missouri in the 2021 class. In those two years, Butts did not appear in any games as a freshman and just two last year. Last year, however, Dorsey only appeared in a single game where he did not record any stats.Īfter two years on campus, speedster Angelo Butts will be headed closer to home. In ten games, Dorsey hauled in three passes for 34 yards. After not appearing in a game as a true freshman in 2020, Dorsey was a semi-regular part of the rotation in 2021. First off, third-year receiver, Devon Dorsey. Miami’s wide receiver depth took a hit in this cycle. Last year, it was 321 yards and three touchdowns that Shelton contributed. In 2021, Shelton ran for just 245 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2020 season and never really got it back. In that freshman year, Shelton ran for 587 yards and a pair of touchdowns off of 108 carries. The second-leading rusher for the RedHawks from the 2019 season was Tyre Shelton and he’s on his way to Louisiana Tech. In 2022 as a redshirt freshman, Snider only appeared in one game and did not record any stats. The vast majority of that production came in the win over Long Island where he ran the ball six times for 21 yards. As a true freshman, Snider appeared in three games and managed 28 yards off of nine attempts. In his time in Oxford, Smith never appeared in a game for the Redhawks.Īs another member of the 2021 class, Darez Snider was never able to get his footing with Miami. After two years in the Miami program, Smith is looking for a new beginning. The second quarterback - well, third, if you count Gabbert - to put his name in the Transfer Portal was Kamell Smith. Joe Humphreys was a highly-decorated quarterback in high school as he threw for 3,940 yards and a ridiculous 48 touchdowns and added 601 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground. Sometimes, players just need a change of scenery.Īfter just one year on campus, the third-highest signed recruit since 2016 is looking for another place to call home. Sometimes, an uptick of transfers is due to coaching changes but Chuck Martin is heading into his 10th year at the helm. A glimmer of good news, however, is the fact that quarterback Brett Gabbert, the program’s sixth most prolific passer in history, removed his name and is back with the team in 2023. Unfortunately for Miami, they hemorrhaged talent in the Portal.Īs the window closed, the Redhawks had 17 players enter their names into the Transfer Portal. Unfortunately, for Group of 5 schools, it will be more likely that they end up losing more talent than they take in as Power 5 schools poach away. Of the 20 receivers to score at least two scores below expectation, 12 increased their touchdowns the following season by an average of just under two scores with players such as Davante Adams in 2020 and Cooper Kupp in 2021 popping up as league-winners that we targeted. With the advent of the Transfer Portal, there will be winners and there will be losers. Since expanding the research process in 2019, 34 wide receivers have scored at least two touchdowns over expectation-25 saw a drop in touchdowns the following season with an average decrease in 2.2 scores. This system has been especially useful at pinpointing yearly changes in wide receiver scoring. The premise is straightforward-players who over-performed in the touchdown column could disappoint relative to inflated ADPs, and those that under-performed could have surprisingly big seasons if they realize their scoring equity.
